The desert rose of the western Sahara - a beautiful crystal which has naturally formed over 2 million to 500 thousand years, leaving remnants of natural wonders that form a defined disc structure that radiates outwards.
Rosette crystal habits occur through the process of sand evaporation; crystals form within arid conditions in desert regions or shallow salt basins. Here they take on the habit of the local environs which are influenced through the iron mineral deposits, to form gypsum, baryte, selenite and celestine (which include the abundant trapped sand grains), giving the crystal its natural and classic colour.
Inspiring sculpture in cultures globally from the Ancient Egyptians, Mesopotamians, Romans, and the Byzantine Empire, including the English Medieval era.
